Carbone's Restaurant hosted their Fourth Annual Pasta Engineering Contest in January of 2010. 33 local high school teams had the chance to integrate math and science skills with hands on experience. Aspiring high school engineers got to try their hand at constructing a spaghetti bridge using only -- you guessed it -- pasta and glue! This years winners were Priya Bhagat and Vicki Hawkins from Hempfiels Area High School. Their bridge heal a record breaking 26 pounds! Second place went to Penn Trafford High School team Jon Miller, Alexander Hunton, and James Strane whose bridge held 15 pounds. Third place winners were Yough High School students Amy Federoff, Brian Knudson, Lizzy Sever, and Dylan Lowanse with a bridge that held 14 pounds. The Pasta Engineering Contest is designed to increase high school students awareness and possible career options in engineering. The students are required to work together in order to design and develop the overall strongest bridge made out of pasta. Our Fifth Annual "Pasta Engineering Contest" will be held in January of 2011.
